Electric Skychurch

I am new to Electric Skychurch, although they have been around quite a while. The band is an electronic or acid trance group based in Los Angeles, California. It was formed in 1991 by composer and producer James Lumb, who initially involved vocalist Roxanne Morganstern and percussionist Alex Spurkel in the project. The “I Love Bob” remix on Endless Horizon was on the Moog Original film soundtrack and features a catchy vocal hook with a chilled dirty beat. Nice for road trips. http://www.skychurch.com/

MartyParty (website) has been killing it on his own, after a successful partnership with Ooah from The Glitch Mob to form PantyRaid. Dubstep is finally starting to feel a little played out, but Marty manages to break the mold and push the envelope with more melodic and intricate production than his British counterparts Here Marty is putting on the red light with this ill remix of the classic Police track…

Beats Antique have a new track out that I’m digging. There are infusions of Middle Eastern belly dance music, down tempo, hip-hop, old school jazz, afro-beat, and many styles of electronic music. Burner favorites that always get the dance floor moving. Upcoming shows and more info at their website: http://beatsantique.com/

Gramatik recently released “Street Bangerz Volume 3″ and it does not disappoint. As with his earlier releases, tracks from this album have been holding down many of the Top 10 spots on the Beatport charts. Chopping up all those old funk, soul, blues and jazz tracks and making something completely new is his love and he does it like no other. Check it: http://www.myspace.com/gramatik
And off Volume 2, this is one of my favorite tracks:
I’ve never seen the HBO show “How to Make It in America,” but this song is apparently the opener. If you’ve seen the show, you are probably familiar with and maybe tired of this song by now. But I”m digging it and this is my first introduction to Aloe Blacc. Stones Throw Records is always pushing the envelope and mixing the soulful with the modern.

I remember seeing the name Sean Hayes on the old Mark Farina track “Dream Machine,” which was a remix of Haye’s track “Rattlesnake Charm.” I never followed up to hear more of his original music, which has been my loss. His full length release Run Wolves Run, has some amazing music on it as does Flowering Spade. His voice is subtle yet powerful with a storytelling delivery and rich imagery. The track below is magic. Get into Sean Hayes here: http://www.seanhayesmusic.com/2010/

The Roots recently released another solid album and this track is blazing hot. Joanna Newsom has an impressive discog, but the Roots have no doubt introduced many music heads to her amazing vocals. This track is good in so many ways…

Broken Bells is artist-producer Brian Burton (better known as Danger Mouse) and James Mercer, the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Albuquerque indie rock band The Shins. I love Mercer’s voice and think the Mouse did a nice job with production. Before the formation of Broken Bells, Mercer and Burton both worked together on the track “Insane Lullaby” on the album Dark Night Of the Soul by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse. Broken Bells have since performed the song several times, often as a tribute to the late Mark Linkous, the Sparklehorse frontman who died in early 2010. Solid album all the way through…
