AdamandEvil: Post-Whitey Indie Brilliance

adamandevil2

I had the pleasure of seeing AdamandEvil perform recently and have their latest EP on heavy rotation in my dj sets and my living room.  Having been a big fan of the seminal London band Whitey, the sound caught my ear and it wasn’t until several weeks after listening that I found out that AdamandEvil was indeed composed of Scott Fairbrother and Julian Shah-Tayler, former band members from Whitey.

After 3 years of touring the world with Whitey and co-writing tracks for the 2nd album (including ‘Wrap it Up’ which has been placed on (among others) The OC, House, RockStar video game, and Grand Theft Auto IV video game) they decided to go out on their own.  AdamandEvil only play select gigs in Hollywood (Bardot on June 3rd) and have an upcomming unreleased EP with Danny Saber (Rolling Stones, David Bowie) on the ep.

The EP is rich and diverse, ranging from the beautiful and melodic track “Shooting Stars” to more upbeat and dancey tracks such as Freaks and the Weeds Daisy O/Dell Remix.  Here is a taste from their upcoming EP.  Get on it before the Silverlake hipsters claim AdamandEvil as their own…

Like you, Ive been following these guys since their Whitey days and I cant say how happy I am to have them close to home in Los Angeles. I saw them recently performing in Hollywood and I cannot say enough good things. Their live sound was incredible. Shooting Stars has become engraved in my mind permanently and Freaks never fails to get my feet moving. I cant wait to see what these guys will do next and I look forward to another show! I’m a freak for AdamandEvil

Ha, what a crock- I met these guys through my girlfriend shortly after they arrived from London and heard the same story. Then I met Whitey’s ex-manager and heard a diffrent story- WHitey was always a solo act, these guys were just part of his live band for a while, and their part in recording was just to keep them involved. They never wrote shit basically. Now they go around acting like they are Whitey. Yeah, right.

l am also friends with an ex-manager and heard similar. I’ve also heard they can be dicks, have egos, etc. But they never act like or reference Whitey in their performances, so I am not following you there. Also, their new music without Whitey sounds pretty damn good in my opinion and I’ve had good feedback from people when I’ve spun their stuff out in L.A. So how much they wrote with Whitey or what happened in the past is pretty irrelevant. The music they have written on their own (including vocals), without Whitey, is solid.
