New Animal Collective Album is a Dreamy Beautiful Masterpiece

Panda Bear and Deakin met in the second grade and became good friends.  Quite a few years later, their Strawberry Jam album garnered great reviews, but I listened and just sorta shrugged my shoulders.  It didn’t move me and never made it to that phase of new album listening where I want to hear the songs over and over.

But their new album, Merriweather Post Pavilion, is fucking gorgeous and we keep playing it over and over while working, falling asleep, to relax, with a bowl, without a bowl, as background to dinner, foreground to sex… doesn’t matter.  So, get your hands on this album which several magazines have already dubbed “the Best Album of 2009.”

Animal Collective are set to tour throughout Europe and US in 2009, and will notably be one of the headlining acts at September’s ATP New York Festival, where Panda Bear will also perform a solo set.  You should go to their show and check out their website or myspace page for more info.  In the meantime, here are the lyrics and MP3 for “My Girl,” plus a dj-friendly remix by Dave Wrangler.
