Pretty Lights Are Filling Up the City Skies

Pretty Lights was a nice find earlier this month and I can’t seem to stop listening.  Electro organic beats that make you nod your head and work equally well on the dance floor, in a downtempo environment or driving down the PCH with the top down. Buzzing bass laced with beautiful melodic samples and soulful vocal cuts.  Pretty Lights has a touch of Bassnectar or Mimosa, but offers it up in a groovier, less aggressive and more palatable fashion.  Fans of RJD2 and Prefuse 73 will also appreciate the glitchy, chopped up beats, soulful vocals and warm atmospheric bass lines.

Pretty Lights is the brain work of Colorado based producer Derek Vincent Smith, accompanied in the live setting by drummer, Cory Eberhard.  Mr. Smith has been selling out shows in Denver and ripping up the jam band concert scene up and down California.  Check out the Myspace page for tour dates and more information.

And if the recession is getting you down, not to worry.  Pretty Lights offers their albums for FREE DOWNLOAD (donations appreciated) at their website: http://www.prettylightsmusic.com/.   I am partial to Filling Up the City Skies Disc 1, but it is all good.  Props to my boy DJ Satchismo in Denver for putting me onto these lovely beats.
